ApplicationContext — контейнер IoC Spring: он читает конфигурацию, создаёт бины, внедряет зависимости и управляет их жизненным циклом. BeanFactory — его родитель более низкого уровня; ApplicationContext добавляет AOP, публикацию событий, i18n и загрузку ресурсов. На практике всегда используется ApplicationContext.
