Чаще всего не нужна церемония — нужен типизированный набор полей, который сравнивается по смыслу, печатается читабельно и копируется с заменой одного поля. data class генерирует equals, hashCode, toString, copy и componentN для деструктуризации. Kotlin так говорит: тут в основном данные, а не театр с поведением.
